ORLANDO, FL - Sources close to golf superstar Tiger Woods have confirmed long-held speculation that his season-ending injuries were actually incurred while impregnating his wife Elin. The recent announcement of the birth of a second child in late winter coincides with the timing of the injuries two weeks before the U.S. Open. The source also disclosed further injuries beyond torn knee cartilage and a broken tibia, including a bruised pelvic bone, cracked ribs and a dislocated jaw.
"He was worked over pretty good." said one source on the condition of anonymity. "Which makes the Open win that much more incredible. But after this, I think he'll go back to conceiving his children during the offseason."
PGA officials were quick to criticize Wood's actions. "I think it was quite irresponsible." said PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem, who has suffered lagging attendance since Wood's departure. "He obviously didn't have the best interests of the Tour in mind."
Wood's fellow players, however, support the superstar. "Family is more important than golf." said Vijay Singh, who has won three tournaments in Wood's absence. "He should take all the time he needs."
Some fans think the reckless act will only add to Wood's legacy. "The man is definitely one-of-a-kind." said Dennis Nelson, a self-proclaimed Tiger fanatic. "Who else can say they won the U.S. Open in a 19 hole playoff on a broken leg suffered while knocking up a Swedish supermodel?"
Indeed.
