PETA Executive Implicated In Meat-Eating Scandal
NORFOLK, VA - Ingrid Newberg, executive director of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, faced a chorus of calls for her resignation today as she was engulfed in a meat-eating scandal involving a high-priced butcher. Newberg has reportedly been a regular client of the butcher for at least four years, paying as much as $50 a pound for select cuts of beef.

Sources indicate Ms. Newberg patronized the butcher shop frequently, but also had private beef deliveries to her home. Surveillance photos obtained by The Daily Redundancy show Newberg in the upscale meat market purchasing a 20 ounce porterhouse for $32. Other photos document the sale of whole chickens, large sausages and an entire beef tenderloin.

The butcher, asked to be identified only as 'Sam', said Newberg began displaying strange meat-eating habits, prompting him to end the relationship. "Sometimes she would eat the meat raw, right out of the paper, making guttural sounds and drooling - but that's not uncommon. It was when she wanted me to smack her on the bottom with a flank steak that I had to draw the line."

Experts say that although Newberg has broken no laws, she may have violated some of PETA's internal policies, and may not survive the scandal. 'Sam', meanwhile, may benefit from the unanticipated publicity, as he is negotiating a photoshoot with Cattleman's Quarterly. "I'll do it as long as it's artistic and tasteful." he said.
