SAN ANTONIO, TX - A nationwide competition to determine America's favorite local television news personality has resulted in a victory for a popular San Antonio assignment reporter. Kim Fischer, of WOAI Channel 4, edged out Sonia Baghdady of WTNH New Haven in the finals to take the top honors. Ms. Fischer began the competition in a field of 32 contestants from coast-to-coast, in an elimination bracket that ran from February 18 through March 10.
"I guess all I can say is thanks." said Kim "Thanks to the person that nominated me, thanks to the people that voted for me, and of course, thanks to all my friends (new and old) that supported me. That was a bracket of very engaging, and obviously very beautiful women. I'm just glad I was even considered!"
As part of her duties as reigning Info Babe Madness National Champion, Kim will be making hundreds of television appearances on WOAI, attending noteworthy community functions, important civic events, and other news 'hot spots' throughout the year. Kim will also appear frequently on the Lisle & Hahn Morning Show on 99.5 KISS FM, San Antonio's official Info Babe Madness affiliate.
The contest concluded with only minor controversy. Allegations of possible voting anomalies in Arizona were investigated by competition officials, who declared that all ambiguous or inadvertent clicks were to be discarded. Reports of AOL users who showed up at the wrong website and were not allowed to vote are being investigated by a team of attorneys from the ACLU. However, neither of these incidents affected the legitimate vote totals.
Contest organizers promise that next year's event will be bigger and better. "Next year's event will be bigger and better, we promise." said one official who spoke with us on the condition of anonymity. "For one thing, we'll have a defending champion."
