| Giants Successfully Avoid Giants Fans |
TAMPA, FL - The New York Giants kept their Super Bowl dreams alive by beating the Tampa Bay Bucs 24-14 on Sunday. On an unseasonably warm day, the Giants took a 14-7 lead in the second quarter in front of 50,000 pleasant Bucks fans, and never
looked back. The playoff road ahead continues to favor the Giants, as they now will head to Dallas and yet another friendly environment practically
free of Giants fans.
"Thank God we're not going back to that place [Giants Stadium]." said quarterback Eli Manning. "Our team's really looking forward to another road game." The Giants, while posting a 3-5 home field record, improved to 8-1 on the road with Sunday's win. Coaches and players offer widely differing explanations of the disparity.
"The spitting, the booing, the cursing, it can be very demeaning on our own field - especially coming from our wives. It's a relief to get away from that." said Michael Strahan, Giant's defensive end, referring to Coach Tom Coughlin's ban on wives traveling to away games. "It's not a problem for me anymore, but it's tough on the young guys."
"In my first game there, I jumped into the stands after a touchdown. That was a big mistake." said wide receiver Plaxico Burress. "I got puked on and someone stole my shoes and my mouthpiece. I think I got felt up, too."
"Our fans have a callous disregard for team psyche." says Coach Coughlin. "Give me two weeks with them in the hot sun in camp, and I'll make them into solid fans."
