NEW YORK, NY - The high priest of the Church of Satan has been defrocked by church elders for heresy. Phillip Wigmore was excommunicated in a ceremony at midnight for 'obstruction of evil', the highest crime against the church. Wigmore received
an e-mail from an Ohio man promising to kill his grandparents in the name of Satan, which Wigmore turned over to the FBI. The man was arrested on Sunday.
"Obviously Magus [Father] Wigmore was struggling with his faith." said one church elder, who spoke with us on the condition of anonymity. "We had clearly reached that man in Ohio and he was ready to do evil - now he may be lost."
Andrew Cooper, 18, told police that he had sent the e-mail as a joke, even though he had argued with his grandparents earlier in the week. "I didn't even think the church was real." he explained. "It [their website] looked like a bunch of guys
goofing around with animal masks on their heads. I thought it was a hoax."
Wigmore told the FBI at the time: "I thought it could be a joke, but with recent events in Colorado and Nebraska, I thought it was better to play it safe."
"That's the kind of blasphemous talk we found intolerable." said the unnamed elder. "There's nothing in the unholy sacraments about 'playing it safe'. Why, we might as well be Presbyterians."
Charges against Cooper are pending.
