LAS VEGAS, NV - The ratings for coverage of O.J. Simpson's armed robbery trial are 'abysmal' according to trial broadcast experts. Producers had hoped that the Simpson name alone would bolster numbers during the November sweeps, but now speculate
the public may think that armed robbery is somewhat unspectacular. Still, broadcasters and print media alike remain hopeful a more sensational crime will emerge before the end of the month.
"When it comes to pulling good ratings in criminal broadcasting, there's just no substitute for a dead white woman." said Michael Kingman, Executive Vice President of CourtTV. "O.J.'s murder trial set the standard as a ratings bonanza,
but Scott Peterson's and Robert Blake's weren't far behind. There's an obvious common denominator."
Most newspapers have already moved the Simpson proceedings off the front page, and broadcast outlets are scrambling to find replacement storylines for the remainder of the sweeps.
"There are a couple of promising developments." said Kingman. "There's a serial killer in Houston, and they just found a little girls body in a cave in Missouri. But unfortunately, they don't fit the preferred
template, and they won't go to trial soon enough. Hopefully, something else will turn up."
