Mattel To Introduce 'Grief Counselor Barbie'
EL SEGUNDO, CA - Mattel will embark on a new marketing campaign by introducing 'Grief Counselor Barbie' this Saturday at the Los Angeles International Toy Show. As the first doll in the 'Human Services Professional' line, Mattel hopes the new doll will appeal to parents eager for their daughters to enter the growing human services industry.

"We realize that times have changed." said Tiffany Hunter-Browland, Vice President of Barbie Marketing and developer of the Human Services Professionals line. "Young girls today realize that life isn't all about shopping and hanging out at the beach. Instead of dreaming about becoming models, many little girls dream of careers as human services professionals - and we want to make those dreams come true."

The boxed set includes two pantsuits and a sweater, along with an attaché full of uplifting brochures and leaflets, and plenty of Kleenex. Accessories available separately are a desk set with a rotary phone and a replica Prius convertible.

"It's very exciting." said Miriam Flatbush, economic assistance caseworker and mother of a four-year-old daughter. "It's about time dolls were made to be more realistic. Being a human services professional can be just as glamorous as being the prom queen. This new Barbie will give my daughter more practical expectations. I just hope they did something about that outrageous figure of hers while they were at it."

Other dolls coming soon include 'Domestic Violence Intervention Barbie', 'Substance Abuse Counselor Barbie', and 'Child Welfare Services Barbie'. Plans for a new Ken line are still on the drawing board.
