JACKSONVILLE, FL - The City will announce that it intends to hold a nationwide raffle in which the winner will receive the stadium naming rights for the remainder of the season. An online campaign will be launched in the next few days for participants to enter for
the drawing, to be held during halftime of the Atlanta game. Responding to several months of unsuccessful attempts to secure a corporate sponsor, officials hope to raise at least a portion of the expected revenue through this highly unusual marketing scheme.
"Of course, any money we can get would be better than nothing." said an official at the Sports & Entertainment office, who spoke with us on the condition of anonymity. "But this campaign may be able to generate revenue comparable with our corporate sponsor goals."
The City would require $100 for each entry in the drawing. The Sports and Entertainment office estimates 5,000 to 10,000 individuals and businesses locally would participate, with another 15,000 to 20,000 nationwide, or $2-3 million for the season.
"That's in the range of what we would have been asking from the business sponsors." said the unnamed official. When asked if there would be any restrictions on the naming entries, he replied, "Well, obviously we wouldn't allow anything tasteless or offensive. And, we may
have to be exclusive of some other entries as well. I mean, we wouldn't want to play in 'Chico's Bail Bonds Stadium' on Sundays."
