| Omni-Racial Transvestite Band Sues Reality Show |
MIAMI, FL - A local cable reality show is being sued for sexual and racial discrimination by an omni-racial transvestite band. The show, '
Where's Your Talent', eliminated the band from competition two weeks ago by a vote from the show's judges.
The suit seeks damages in excess of $1 million according to papers filed in district court.
The band, Boyz2Women, is a racially diverse group of young men, who typically don outlandish Vegas showgirl costumes and sing reggae versions of Broadway show tunes. "If this contest was truly about talent, we wouldn't be here today." said band member
Jermaine Lester, a.k.a. 'Chrissy'. "It's obvious that the producers of this show had issues with gender and ethnicity." Fellow band member Dustin Ng, a.k.a. 'Yolanda' agreed: "There's no question that we were the better act. It's a shame that good judgment was
clouded by ignorance and bigotry."
The suit includes charges of racial discrimination against judges Ian Farmer and Fiona Campbell, who are white, and sexual discrimination charges against Raymond Jackson, who is African-American. The show's producer, who is a Hispanic woman, was named in both suits.
Farmer denies that race or gender had any influence on the voting. "They were just horrible - unwatchable, really, practically repugnant. They can't sing, they can't dance, and they look ridiculous. Reggae show tunes? Please. I would have voted them off even if they were real women."
Legal experts eagerly await the outcome of this case. "This is groundbreaking stuff." said L. Preston Jernigan, senior partner at Jernigan Jernigan and Huff. "You've got a gender neutral group of no specific race suing for discrimination. If they get a dime out of this, I see the possibilities as endless."
